Cybersecurity webinar marks ICT month


In line with this year’s National Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Month, the ICT Section and the College of Computing Sciences (CCS) of Ifugao State University (IFSU) equipped employees and students with knowledge and skills to protect their valuable information from the threat of cybercrimes through a free cybersecurity webinar on June 29, 2022, via video conference.

Bannering the national theme, “Spark, Strengthen, Sustain: Advancing the PH Digital Agenda," the webinar aimed to promote cybercrime awareness; and further understand cyber threats, the potential impact of cyber-attacks, and steps to reduce risk and prevent cyber-crime infiltration in one’s online workplace.

Resource Speaker Engr. Rodel Villarez, Courseware Manager of Trend Micro Philippines company, discussed the Cybersecurity Essentials with at least 60 participants.

Cybersecurity, as defined by Engr. Villarez, is the practice of ensuring the Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability of Information. He said that everyone needs to be cyber safe and ready for possible threats and attacks.

He discussed tips in securing Applications, File protection, and Online to protect individual valuable information from various phishing and other internet fraud circulating the internet. Engr. Villarez encouraged participants to generate secure passwords, use encryption, and follow the 3-2-I Backup rule.

"We need to educate ourselves and stay vigilant in using online services," he added.

Moreover, an e-sport competition by IFSU employees was held on June 30.

Mr. Monchito Binwek, ICT Section Chief, said the University will also assist an IFSU-adopted school in their ICT-related training needs as part of its extension program.
