IFSU joins nation in VAW -free campaign


In oneness with the national government's resolve for a community free from Violence Against Women (VAW), Ifugao State University (IFSU) launched the 18-Day Campaign with the national theme, “UNiTEd for a VAW-free Philippines," during the Flag Raising Ceremony and Fellowship early today, November 28, 2022.

Aiming to promote awareness of violence among women and girls, provide information on the laws protecting women and girls, and feature VAW-related services that people can access and avail, IFSU through the Gender and Development Research and Resource Center (GADRRC) is rallying behind the Philippine Commission on Women in the said campaign through the conduct of several activities.

Following the launching, an orientation seminar for students of the University on the laws protecting women and girls was conducted by the GADRRC in partnership with the College of Criminal Justice Education.

PCpl Ma. Antonette G. Pelobello of the Philippine National Police-Lamut expounded on the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004 and the Safe Spaces Act. PCpl Pelobello encouraged those who experienced and/or experiencing any form of abuse to speak up.

Advocacy campaign on the same laws is also to be conducted for select barangays in Lamut. Moreover, a weekly improvement of the Women’s garden shall be conducted starting on December 2, 2022.

Before the launching of the campaign this Monday, IFSU also joined in the annual nationwide kick-off on November 25. With "Orange Your Friday" as the catchphrase, IFSU offices bannered orange decorations. The color, orange, as a bright and optimistic color, represents hope and a future free from violence against women and girls.

The University also encourages students and employees to show their support online by uploading photos, articles, and other information relative to the 18-Day Campaign to End VAW using the hashtags #VAWfreePH and the use of the 18-Day Campaign to End VAW Facebook Profile Frame.
