General Services personnel participates in seminar on personality dev't, use of gender-fair language


To develop and enhance one's strengths, positive attitudes and attain a well-rounded personality among public servants, Ifugao State University (IFSU) through the Department of Human Resources and Development (DHRD) held a seminar for at least 25 general services personnel of the University on November 15, 2022, at the 2nd floor, University Library, Lamut campus.

Spearheaded and organized by the DHRD-Learning and Development section, the seminar dubbed "Panudtudu: Capacitating General Services Personnel on Personality Development & Gender-Fair Languages" is a learning approach seminar that aims to determine the participants' personalities, identify their strengths and weaknesses, and know some social graces.

Dr. Rommel B. Sumeg-ang, a faculty member of the College of Advanced Education and former Director of Gender and Development Resource and Research Center, and Dr. Janice P. Milo, Dean of the College of Criminal Justice Education served as the resource speakers.

Dr. Sumeg-ang expounded on the Determinants of Personality; the Importance of Personality Development; the Importance of Character in Personality Development; the Role of Personality Development in the Success of an Organization; Personality development at the Workplace; Dressing and Personality Development; Communication Skills and Personality Development; and Conflict Management and Skills.

"Individuals with different kinds of personalities working in this organization contribute a lot to the success of the University as long as we stick to its vision and mission,” he remarked.

To help promote gender sensitivity in the workplace, Dr. Milo also familiarized participants with the use of gender-fair language when communicating with clients and colleagues. Dr. Milo conveyed that the use of non-sexist language stipulated in the Civil Service Commission Memo Circular no. 12 of 2005 and the Philippine Commission on Women Memo Circular no. 06 of 2014 said that using gender-fair language plays a very crucial role in shaping thoughts, perceptions, and attitudes of every individual.

Meanwhile, University President Dr. Eva Marie Codamon-Dugyon expressed her delight and shared that the seminar reflects the University’s mantra, “No University personnel shall be left behind.”

“As one of the important assets in the success of the University, this seminar will lead you in helping the University in its shared goal of quality and excellent public service,” Dr. Dugyon said.
