Ifugao State University (IFSU) is once again witnessing the sports prowess of students as the Lamut campus officially unlocked this year’s Socio-Cultural and Sports festival at the University Oval early today, September 29.

The two-day festival with the theme, “Socio-Cultural and Sports Competition: Instrument Towards Excellence and Progress” aims for students in Lamut (Main) Campus to showcase their knowledge in indigenous games, talents in socio-cultural performances, speed in track and field events, and competitive focus in ball games.

In her message, University President Dr. Eva Marie Codamon-Dugyon said that through extracurricular activities like Socio-Cultural and Sports fest, the University’s core values of Excellence, Faith, Integrity, Service, Creativity, and Cultural Sensitivity being imbibed to students can be evidently manifested.

“Our University, your University, despite the pandemic, strives to make these in-person tournaments and contests and cultural performances happen because we believe that education and the University’s core values are not only appreciated, learned and unleashed inside the physical and virtual classroom but from partaking in extracurricular activities. Our self-isolation due to the COVID for two all the more made this limited face-to-face fellowship primordial to our physical and mental well-being,” said Dr. Dugyon.

Dr. Dugyon also said through the festival student-athletes will learn essential values in life.

“This event is an avenue to imbue the values of sportsmanship in losing and humility in winning. Our ambitions push us, but we are pulled up by our values. Do not only win here. Win everywhere because you are humble enough to know that you need to know more, learn more, and be better,” she added.

To officially start the Socio-Cultural and Sports fest, a Ceremonial Toss was led by Dr. Dugyon and assisted by Dr. Mary P. Caclini, Vice President for Academic Affairs and the College Deans.
