1st Incident Command System training course launched


To achieve the vision of a safe working environment, emergency and disaster prepared institution, Ifugao State University (IFSU) through the University Disaster, Risk Reduction Management (UDRRM) launched a 3-day training course on Basic Incident Command System (ICS) at the Heritage Convention Center, IFSU - Main on June 27-29, 2022.

In partnership with Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO)-Lamut, said event was attended by 50 participants from the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Municipal Local Government Units, and IFSU.

Dr. Diosdado M. Aquino, Vice President for Planning, Finance & Resource Generation (VPFRG), in his Opening Remarks, assured

continued support of the training. He said that the training on Basic ICS is an effective way of managing the response to an emergency.

“It fits the command and control environment familiar to police, fire, and military agencies,” he added.

Moreover, Benedict N. Doplah, IFSU-Lamut UDRRM officer, said that this course which is composed of eight (? modules will equip

participants with essential knowledge, skills, and attitude for Basic ICS in any disaster situation.

Jonas K. Chumacog, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer; Peter Paul A. Ngalew, Coast Guard Petty Officer II; and Crismar P. Farnucan, Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer discussed the module contents as follows: Introduction

to ICS, ICS Organization and Staffing, ICS Facilities, Managing Planned Events and Incident, Incident/Event Assessment and Management by Objectives, Organizing and Managing Resources, and Incident and Event Planning, and Transfer of Command, Demobilization and Closeout.

Meanwhile, Atty. Aiza Liza Namingit-Velasco, University Legal Counselor, elaborated on RA No. 11313 or The Safe Spaces Act (Bawal Bastos Law) that covers all forms of gender-based sexual harassment (GBSH) committed in public spaces, educational or training institutions, workplace and online space.
