IFSU hosts 2022 PPSA Luzon Reg’l Confab


Ifugao State University (IFSU) hosted the 2022 Philippine Political Science Association (PPSA) Luzon Regional Conference in collaboration with the PPSA, National Security Council; and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Institute, a German political party foundation via Zoom and Facebook Live Stream on February 15 to 16, 2022.

Aimed at generating a discussion on the current trends and issues on the Philippine National Security During and After the Duterte presidency: Looking Back and Looking Beyond, said 2-day conference gathered at least 250 participants from professionals and students in the Political and Social Sciences, policymakers in Luzon, among others.

Resource speaker Vicente M. Agdamag, Deputy Director-General for Operations of the National Security Council, talked on the “Concerns and Issues in the West Philippine Sea During Duterte’s Administration”. Meanwhile, Dr. Renato De Castro, Professor at De La Salle University-Manila unfolded and discussed the ‘Dilemma in Confronting China’s Expansion in the South China Sea: The Philippine’s Changing 21st Century Grand Strategy”. Usec Damian L. Carlos, Deputy Director-General for Counterterrorism delved on “The Challenges of Communist Insurgents to National Security”, while Neil Ryan R. Pancho, Professor at Ateneo de Davao University, expounded on the “Counterterrorism in the Philippines.”

Moreover, research studies titled “Vulnerabilities, Political Patronage and Disaster Management in Landslide-prone Municipalities of Ifugao, Philippines” and the “Cordillera Indigenous Practices and the Covid-19 Pandemic” were presented by Michael C. Jamillon, Chairperson of the IFSU - Political Science Department and Dr. Mary Jane Jaranilla, Head of Social Science and Political Science Department of St. Louis University-Baguio, respectively.
