IFSU conducts Women’s Health Seminar for students, employees


Ifugao State University (IFSU)through the Gender and Development Research and Resource Center (GADRRC) in partnership with the University Clinic and the College of Health Sciences (CHS) held a health seminar on breast and cervical cancer for students and employees today, March 21, 2023, at the Audio-Visual Room, University Library, Lamut campus.

Aside from it being a way to observe the National Women’s Month celebration, the health awareness campaign aims to provide education and vital guidance about women’s health issues and concerns regarding breast and cervical cancer and gives practical advice on how to live a healthier lifestyle.

Medical professionals, Dr. Theresa H. Kalugdan, Municipal Health Officer of Lagawe, and Dr. Meynard Keynes Q. de la Cruz of Panopdopan District Hospital served as the resource speakers.

Dr. Kalugdan and Dr. de la Cruz discussed cervical cancer and breast cancer respectively. They informed the participants of its causes, symptoms, risk factors, and preventive means against said cancers. The medical professionals also advised everyone to be mindful and practice a safe and healthy lifestyle. They also encouraged the participants to be fellow advocates by passing the knowledge to the younger generation.

The session ended with an open forum. Students and employees were able to receive free meal stubs and personalized mugs for the correct answers the organizers asked.

Ms. Cherry Ann Bumidang, Gender and Development Chairperson for Lamut campus thanked the students from CHS and employees from different offices for their active involvement during the session. Ms. Bumidang also thanked the Office of the University President for funding the health seminar.

Tomorrow, March 22, 2023, GADRRC shall be conducting an Orientation on Gender and Development (GAD) and Gender Fair Language to newly hired permanent employees and contract of service personnel.
