The Indigenous Peoples Resource Conservation and Community Learning Center of the Ifugao State University (IFSU) – Hapao Campus celebrated National Arts Month with a "A Cultural Show for a Cause." Held at Bokiawan Elementary School in Hungduan, Ifugao, the event showcased the performing arts of the province, including traditional music, dance, and theatre.

Senior citizens, adorned in their cultural attire, enthralled the audience with a performance of native songs, dances, Hudhud chants, and Liwliwa presentations. This showcase celebrated the rich Ifugao heritage and demonstrated how cultural preservation contributes to a sustainable future.

The Hudhud is a narrative chant traditionally performed during rice cultivation, harvest celebrations, and even funeral ceremonies. On the other hand, the Liwliwa is a unique art form where emotions like love, protest, and personal experiences are expressed through a debate-style song. Groups of men and women, led by community leaders, participate in this performance.

The event resonated with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 11 and 17. By promoting artistic expression and safeguarding cultural heritage, the extravaganza aligned with SDG 11's focus on sustainable cities and communities. Also, it contributed to SDG 17's goal of strengthening partnerships for a sustainable future.#Faith B. Napudo
