University clinics serve 7,069 patients


The Ifugao State University (IFSU) Clinic at the Main and Potia Campuses provided the much needed  health  services to a total of 5,028 patients from the students and communities.  

Based from the 2018 IFSU Clinic Report, topping the list is the miscellaneous cases given to over the counter medicines for headache, stomach ache, toothache and other related cases. Since January to December 2018, a total of 361 patients were given over the counter medicines.  

Following the miscellaneous cases is the upper respiratory infection which include cough and colds with 178 cases. According to Jesrael Dipia-o, school nurse, this health case is attributed to the changing and unpredictable weather pattern.  

Third on the list is wounds with 122 cases. This include vehicular and road accidents. The University Clinic catered to patients inside and outside the campus premises who sustained wounds and minor injuries.

Fourth on the top five health cases treated at the University Clinic is Acute Gastroenteritis or Amoebiasis with 23 cases. School Nurse Dipia-o explained that Amoebiasis is an intestinal illness that is typically transmitted when someone eats or drinks something that is contaminated with a microscopic parasite called Entamoeba Histotytica. He further explained that the common cause of Amoebiasis among patients are contaminated or unclean water system and improper food handling.

And lastly is hypersensitivity reaction Urticaria with 21 cases. School nurse Dipia-o described Urticaria as an outbreak of swollen, pale red bumps or plaque on the skin that appears suddenly either as a result of the body’s reaction to certain allergens or for unknown reason.
