IFSU participates in Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill

Students and employees at the Ifugao State University (IFSU) - Lamut campus participated in a simulated earthquake drill today, 25 March 2024, as part of the 1st Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED).

The NSED is designed to be held four times a year to ensure that everyone is prepared to respond in the event of an earthquake or fire. At IFSU, the University's Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) office spearheaded the drill, with assistance and evaluation from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) - Lamut.

Conducted as part of Fire Prevention Month this March, it is a timely reminder of the importance of preparedness. Vice President for Planning, Finance, and Resource Generation Dr. Diosdado M. Aquino emphasized, "One of the causes of fire is earthquake," highlighting the interconnectedness of disaster preparedness.

IFSU’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) conducted simulations for collapsed buildings and fires that could occur during an earthquake. They demonstrated lifesaving techniques which include proper evacuation procedures and administering first aid.

Ms. Marveluz C. Daniels, newly designated DRRM University Chairperson, expressed IFSU’s commitment to building a culture of disaster resilience. "We will continue to make IFSU disaster resilient through preparedness and awareness activities in all campuses," she said.

"In campus, they (students) will learn; outside, they will be advocates to their families and their communities, " Ms. Daniels concluded.//DDT
