IFSU joins inter-agency tree planting

Administrative Council members, employees, and students enrolled in the National Service Training Program (NSTP) of Ifugao State University (IFSU), together with Barangay Mabato-bato officials and Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) planted at least 3,270 fruit-bearing and non-bearing trees at Barangay Mabato-bato, Lamut, Ifugao on October 22-24, 2019.

The tree planting activity is an annual tradition of the University with a goal to contribute in sustaining the environment. Trees planted are commonly dubbed as “Birthday Trees”. Said tree planting is also one of the lined up activities for the centennial celebration of the University.

This is also consonant to the “Employee Tree Planting Activity” launched in 2007 and the Office Order No. 3 in 2012 or the “Student Tree Planting Activity” that was later revised the same year with an Office Order No. 14 which requires all incoming freshmen and transferee students enrolled in NSTP in the University to plant and care for five trees up to the time of their graduation.

The order identified the Department of NSTP as the implementing body. Among the fruit-bearing and non-bearing trees planted include Rambutan, Marang, Narra and Golden Shower.//by:Liza B. Pugong
