Ifugao State University (IFSU)-Lagawe Campus concluded its week-long College of Business and Management (CBM) Week last March 8, with a Closing Ceremony filled with awards and expressions of gratitude. Themed "Going Beyond: Creating Breakthroughs and Meanings," the event brought together students, faculty, and industry partners for a celebration of entrepreneurship, research, and cultural heritage.

Dr. John G. Pagaddut, Dean of the CBM, emphasized that the event served as a platform to strengthen camaraderie within the IFSU, Lagawe Campus, and College communities. He highlighted its importance in fostering teamwork between faculty and students, the College's most vital stakeholders, as well as partner agencies and other community members. This collaboration, he stressed, is key to achieving individual and collective efficiency and productivity.

University President Dr. Eva Marie Codamon-Dugyon noted that the theme reflects IFSU's aspirations which go beyond simply addressing current challenges but aim to surpass them. Dr. Dugyon also lauded the conduct of CBM Week for it broadens the studentsโ€™ horizons. Through the BMW, students connect with industry partners and government officials that helps them acquire business acumen.

She also identified specific areas for improvement, including facilities and resources, to make the Lagawe Campus the preferred campus within the University. Likewise, she challenged the CBM faculty and students to improve their performance in licensure examinations.

The Business Convergence on the first day of the celebration welcomed Accountant Jacqueline A. Dulinayan of the Commission on Audit, Engr. Francis D. Pacio (represented by Imelda D. Kimayong of the Department of Trade and Industry), Dr. Isabelita M. Codamon of the Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Tourism, and several local business owners and managers.

Engineer Pacio and Dr. Codamon emphasized the need for students to develop resilience, strong communication skills, and a positive attitude to thrive in a competitive job market. Accountant Dulinayan underscored the importance of lifelong learning in a constantly changing world.

A Cultural Festival followed, showcasing Ifugao's rich culture and traditions through food, music, and clothing.

Day 2 featured an Entrepreneurs' Symposium where successful entrepreneurs like Jonas U. Dupo, Roselyn B. Dulnuan, and Reygene Kay Buhong shared their inspiring stories. Students interacted with the speakers, gaining valuable insights into overcoming challenges and achieving success. The afternoon saw a lively sports festival that promoted teamwork and sportsmanship among students.

Day 3 focused on research and extension. Students from the college presented their research to a panel of experts, receiving valuable feedback and fostering connections with external organizations. Guest speaker Engr. Don S. Ognayon from the Department of Science and Technology-Ifugao emphasized the importance of translating research findings into practical solutions that benefit local businesses and communities.

The First College Skills Competition on Day 4 challenged students in various areas relevant to their programs. Accountancy students competed in video program campaigning, business start-up ideas and icons presentations, and brochure making. Business Administration students showcased their marketing, advertising, and infographic skills. Hospitality Management students demonstrated their expertise in bed making, table setting, and bartending, while Tourism Management students competed in vlogging, tour packaging, and table setting.

For five days, 20 business booths, run by both student entrepreneurs and industry professionals, showcased CBM products, program activities, and student achievements. Simulating a real market, the booths facilitated commercial activities like production, consumption, savings, and various exchanges.

The week culminated in a Closing Ceremony where students were recognized for their achievements in research presentations and skills competitions. Dr. Pagaddut expressed its gratitude to all stakeholders who contributed to the success of the event. The CBM Week culminated in a fashion show where students strutted their creativity and style.#Faith B. Napudo
