iFSU scales up services vis-a-vis standards of int'l rankings group

To boost quality education and strengthen its international impact, Ifugao State University (IFSU) convened select officials who are members of the University’s Task Force for World’s Universities with Real Impact (WURI) to explore, discuss, and look into the services of the University across its major thrusts with respect to the indicators of international ranking figures at the Accreditation Room, CCS building on September 8-9, 2022.

Dr. Marie Ann C. Galvez, Director of the Department of Quality Assurance, said that the event aimed to assess the University’s past and current undertakings and their contribution to the life of our stakeholders, both vulnerable and marginalized men and women.

WURI is a new ranking system established by the Organizing Committee of the Hanseatic League of Universities (HLU) that evaluates universities’ contributions to society, particularly on creations and innovations.

Dr. Eva Marie Codamon-Dugyon, University President, in her message, also said that the event, which is the first to be conducted in the University, will help the academe evaluate its standing in relation to the indicators set by international ranking bodies.

“As the working president of the University, I have always pushed forward subjecting our University to accreditation or review from external experts. Through this, we can see how we are faring compared to quality standards outside our lenses and biases. This will remind us not to dwell on our laurels but to continuously improve our systems,” added Dr. Dugyon.

Dr. Christine N. Ferrer, Director of External Linkages and International Affairs of the Tarlac Agricultural University in Camiling, Tarlac, served as a resource speaker. She presented the University’s best practices and their journey to WURI ranking inclusion.

She also discussed the six categories of evaluation for WURI, namely: Industrial Application, Entrepreneurial Spirit, Ethical Value, Student Mobility and Openness, Crisis Management, and Fourth Industrial Revolution.

A brief orientation on Quacquerelli Symonds (QS) Ranking and Times Higher Education (THE) Ranking was also conducted.

Richard D. Baliao, Director of the Department of Communication, Public and International Affairs, said that WURI, QS, and THE are evidence-based marketing tools that provide badges for each rating which IFSU can use in its own marketing to help entice international students.
